Eastern Neighbours Film Festival is back at LHC. ENFF began in The Netherlands in 2006 with the idea to offer Dutch and international audiences a unique glimpse into the cinema of their neighbours from Central, South, and Southeast Europe.  After the screening you are welcome to join us at Das Kabinett for informal drinks from 20:45.
A seemingly ordinary encounter sets in motion a chain of events in which money, power and morality become increasingly difficult to separate. In Black Money for White Nights, Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov explore a world where good intentions quickly give way to compromise, and where the boundaries between right and wrong are never quite as clear as they seem. Black Money for White Nights is a gripping and unsettling film about corruption, complicity and the price of looking the other way.

Omschrijving

Sixty-year-old Marina and her husband, Gosha, have spent years saving money from small bribes to fund their dream pilgrimage to St. Petersburg to witness the White Nights of Dostoevsky. When Russia invades Ukraine and their travel agency vanishes with their savings, their dream – and their illusion of control – collapses. Gosha ends up in hospital after being beaten while trying to recover the money. Long-buried betrayals surface, forcing the couple to confront the lies on which their life has been built and to search, among the ruins, for a trace of dignity and grace. A sharply observed tragicomedy about ordinary people in Bulgaria trapped between corruption, family loyalty and the collapse of moral certainty.
