De dertienjarige Nawi woont in Turkana, een afgelegen streek in het noorden van Kenia, waar kindhuwelijken, ondanks dat ze officieel verboden zijn, nog overal voltrokken worden. Als Nawi ontdekt dat haar vader haar voor een kudde geiten heeft verkocht, besluit ze op de avond voor haar bruiloft er vandoor te gaan. Wat volgt is een aangrijpende en dappere strijd tegen een diepgewortelde traditie, maar ook een strijd voor zelfbeschikking en recht op onderwijs. What follows is a harrowing and courageous struggle against a deeply rooted tradition, as well as a fight for self-determination and the right to education.
