A love story so unbelievably romantic and moving that it is still told in Swedish primary schools today. In 1975, a young Indian man named PK falls in love with Lotta, a woman from Sweden. When she returns home, he sets off on a second-hand bicycle, with barely any money in his pocket, on a journey of more than 10,000 kilometres to find her again. PK is a Dalit, considered an “untouchable”: born at the bottom of India’s caste system, he is destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. Yet, at the time of his birth, an astrologer makes a remarkable, almost impossible prediction about his future soulmate. His encounter with Lotta in New Delhi seems to fulfil this prophecy. But when she fails to keep her promise to visit him again, that destiny is suddenly thrown into doubt. What follows is a breathtaking journey across unfamiliar countries, over mountain passes and through endless landscapes, with PK relying at every turn on the kindness and generosity of the people he meets along the way.
